The 2-cour (quarters of a year), 24-episode TV anime adaptation of writer Okina Baba and illustrator Tsukasa Kiryu's ongoing light novel series, So I'm a Spider, So What? (Kumo Desu ga, Nanika?) has disappointingly suffered from a steep drop in quality these past few episodes. The adaptation was always a hybrid of 2D animation and 3D CGI but the last few episodes have been a buffet of still shots and CGI What makes this downward trend even more disappointing is the fact that the show started out in January with stellar animation and quickly became one of the top shows of the Winter anime season.
It's recently been revealed that this Friday's season finale will be delayed, and there's no indication of where or when it will air. It's clear that the show was suffering from production issues these last few weeks, so it's definitely for the best that the finale is delayed and the show gets the proper send-off that it deserves.
Studio Millepensee's struggles have started a debate in the North American anime fandom about the merits of a split-cour (where an anime airs 12-13 episodes and then takes a season off before returning) vs a two-cour adaptation.
Hopefully, the drop in quality these last few episodes don't effect the show's chances for a second season.
We'll keep you updated on when and where the season finale (titled "So I'm Still a Spider, So What?") will air. Crunchyroll is currently simulcasting the series as it airs in Japan.
