Star Wars: Visions a Disney+ anime anthology series from Lucasfilm was first announced back in December via the official Star Wars Twitter account.
New details on Star Wars: Visions have been scarce these last few months but that looks set to change in July at Anime Expo Lite. The show has a half-hour panel slated for July 3 at 3PM PST (6PM EST). We're expecting the 10 japanese anime studios involved with the project to be announced. The show is currently slated to drop on Disney+ some time in 2021.
Visions will come on the heels of 2018's Star Wars Resistance, which was a 3D-cgi anime-inspired television series for DisneyXD which was animated by Polygon Pictures- the studio behind several of Netflix's cg anime including Knights of Sidonia, Ajin and Human Lost..
Anime Expo, the annual Los Angeles anime convention (and the biggest North American anime convention) is going virtual this year due to COVID-19. Registering for the event will cost $5 but 100% of the proceeds will go to commUNITY Action Fund by Hate is a Virus- a nonprofit aiming to combat racism and hate.
An official statement from Lucasfilm went a little more in-depth, describing the project as:
Presenting all-new, creative takes on the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Visions will be a series of animated short films celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world's best anime creators. The anthology collection will bring 10 fantastic visions from several of the leading Japanese anime studios, offering a fresh and diverse cultural perspective to Star Wars.
