Attention Sailor Moon manga fans! The manga has officially announced that it will be getting its own anime film! The celestial Guardian will make her debut in animation in the Sailor Moon Cosmos anime movie, which seems only fitting given the circumstances.
It was revealed today that Keiko Kitagawa will be providing the voice of Sailor Cosmos in the films that are still to come. Kitagawa has an excellent acting background, having been in both the live-action rendition of THE PROMISED NEVERLAND as well as the Fast and the Furious film franchise. However, her first job came in 2003, and it was in the live-action adaptation of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. She played Rei Hino, also known as Sailor Mars.
Kitagawa noted how significant the series has been to her throughout her life, both as a childhood fan and as a component of her profession while talking about the casting process. She refers to Sailor Cosmos as the "ultimate depiction of Sailor Moon's future," and says that she intended to highlight both the character's power as well as the human vulnerability in her interpretation of the role. Kitagawa further mentions that Sailor Cosmos is a motivational figure for those who are concerned and uncertain about their own futures and how they will turn out.
Both the Toei Animation and Studio Deen adaptations of Sailor Moon Cosmos are being directed by Tomoya Takahashi, who previously worked as an assistant director on the show Gatchaman Crowds. The script is being written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, whose previous work includes That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Kazuko Tadano, whose previous work includes character designs for the first and second seasons of Sailor Moon. Again, Yasuharu Takanashi (Sailor Moon Crystal) is producing the film's soundtrack, while Yumiko Kuga from Studio Jack (Deaimon: Recipe for Happiness) is serving as the film's art director. Both of these individuals have worked on previous Sailor Moon projects.
The "final battle" from the original manga series written by Naoko Takeuchi will be turned into Sailor Moon Cosmos. This battle was previously made into the last arc of the original Sailor Moon anime series, which was titled Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. The first film in the Cosmos franchise will be released on June 9, and the second half will hit theaters on June 30.
The two-part film Sailor Moon Eternal, originally released in 2021 worldwide on Netflix's streaming servies. The television anime series Sailor Moon Crystal was continued with Eternal, which is available to watch online for free on Crunchyroll.
