Four months after releasing the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Suicide Squad Isekai anime from WIT Studio, a new look at the project has been released which reveals what other Task Force X members besides Harley Quinn and the Joker will be present.
Thanks to the new trailer, we now have confirmation that joining Harley Quin in her otherworldly adventure will be King Shark, Peacemaker, Deadshot, and Clayface. Check out the new footage below.
What do you think of this Suicide Squad line-up versus the 4-man team of Harley, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot that Rocksteady is unleashing in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
For non-anime fans unfamiliar with the concept of isekai, the term refers to a genre of manga/anime where characters are transported to another world that traditionally has a high fantasy setting. Characters typically discover that they have gained overpowered special abilities or magic as they explore their new surroundings.
Over the last few years, this concept has come to dominate anime and manga with many new titles often looking to subvert expectations- such as the protagonist landing in the new world and discovering that he has no special abilities or that he's been transported to become the new Demon King instead of the hero.
Eri Osasda will be directing the Suicide Squad isekai series for WIT, which features a screenplay written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, character designs from Akira Amano and Naoto Hasodo, and music from Kenchiro Suehiro.
Previously, WB Japan executive producer Hiroyuki Omor revealed to Anime News Network that development on the project started roughly four years ago.
"Was it three or four years ago? Though I have a vague memory of who approached who first... Warner Bros. Japan wanted to make an anime for a DC Comic title and then approached asking if Wit Studio would be interested in the project. Then, after Wit Studio considered it, they decided they'd like to join the project. Producer [Sho] Ohtani was especially interested and tried to develop the idea of what they could make the anime look like. So that's how the project started."
The project is still without an official release date but DC Comics has confirmed that the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will be released at some point in 2024. Will you be watching the series when it drops? Let us know in the comment section below.
