COWBOY BEBOP: "Maybe It Wasn't As Good As We Thought," Jet Black Actor Responds To Netflix Series Cancellation

Based on the iconic 1998 anime series of the same name, Cowboy Bebop is one of Netflix's most recent live-action series and it's also one of the most recent to be canned.

Just a couple of weeks since the new series premiered, after just one season, Netflix has pulled the plug on the live-action adaptation that starred John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, and Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black.

Following the announcement that the live-action Cowboy Bebop series had been cancelled, the latter aforementioned actor took to social media to provide his thoughts on the development (via the actor's Instagram) — as you can see below.

"What a cool opportunity right?! I got to play Jet Black! I'll never not be him..so to speak. That's badass to me," Shakir began his post expressing gratitude for his involvement with the series. "Netflix went balls to wall for us in order to get it done. They really looked out for us when shit hit the fan.

"But at the end of the day business is business and this was a big ship that needed a lot of fuel," Shakir continued before admitting that the negative reaction to the series may have had some merit. "Maybe the "haters" and the critics got us maybe it wasn't as good as we thought. All I know is we got this done under the craziest conditions and I'm proud of what we did. Thank you for dreaming with us. See you space cowboys. Forever yours, Jet Black."

Certainly a solemn goodbye to a role that the actor was clearly passionate about.
