Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside is based on the Japanese fantasy light novel written by Zappon and drawn by Yasumo. The 13-episodes of Season 1, jointly animated by Wolfs Bane and Studio Flad, were first broadcast from October 6 to December 29, 2021. All episodes are currently available on Crunchyroll. The broadcast schedule and other information for Season2 will be made known at a later date.
The series tells the story of Gideon Ragnason, who was a member of the Hero's Party, a potent organization founded by his sister Ruti and destined to rid the world of evil, in a world where people's fates are determined by the Divine Blessings they get at birth. With the common ability to survive in any environment provided by his Blessing, he demonstrates how the potential of extra talents might be increased. That is, until Ares, the Party's second-in-command, decides that he is a burden to the other party members and exiles him. Ares' advice is taken to heart, and Gideon leaves without telling Ruti.
Gideon relocates to a border town, changes his name to Red, and establishes an apothecary in the hopes of leading a simple life on the frontier. A lovely adventurer from his past named Rit arrives up and wishes to move in with him, so keeping his old status a secret might not be as easy as he thinks!
Anime - In November 2020, it was revealed that a television anime series would be created. The series is directed by Makoto Hoshino, animated by Wolfsbane and Studio Flad, with Megumi Shimizu handling the writing, Ruriko Watanabe creating the character designs, and Yukari Hashimoto providing the soundtrack. Ryta Suzuki was given her first major voice part in the television series. Due to "different circumstances," the launch date was moved from July 2021 to October 2021. It broadcast on AT-X and other stations from October 6 to December 29, 2021. The opening theme, "Iki o Sū Koko de Sū Ikiteku" was performed by Yui Nishio, with JYOCHO performing the closing theme, "Minna Onaji" (All the Same). Outside of Asia, Funimation obtained the series' license. The series' English dub, which was announced by Funimation on October 19, 2021 and officially debuted the next day. October 31, 2022 saw the announcement of a second season.
Light Novel - Banished from the Hero's Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside began running in serial form in 2017 on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, which publishes user-generated novels. Later, Kadokawa Shoten bought it, and since June 2018 they have released eleven additional volumes under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko banner. Six light novels have been released in English by Yen Press.
Manga - Since May 2018, Kadokawa Shoten's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Ace has been running a serialized version of a manga adaption with illustrations by Masahiro Ikeno. As of July 2022, it had been compiled into nine tankōbon volumes. The North American rights to the light novel and manga are owned by Yen Press. In September 2020, Yen Press started distributing the official English translation in the USA and other nations. On July 19, 2022, the second volume of the English manga was published.
