With Rick and Morty: The Anime premiering later this year, Warner Bros. Discovery has been delivering a steady dose of trailers and previews for the highly anticipated series. Today, fans were treated to yet another look at the upcoming show.
With little context provided, the clip drops us at the Smith house in the middle of a shootout. Agents armed with rifles, katanas, and other explosive weaponry are attacking as the Smiths fend them off. Even though we don't really know what's happening, it's a good look at the animation for the show.
Warner Bros. Discovery did previously release a synopsis for Rick and Morty: The Anime, which looks to offer a much different take on the multiverse seen in the main series. The official synopsis reads:
In Rick and Morty: The Anime, a new series from the world of “Rick and Morty,” Rick relaxes in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being.
We still don't have a release date for Rick and Morty: The Anime, but the clip reinforces that the series will debut at some point this year. As it was also previously announced, Rick and Morty: The Anime will be coming to both Adult Swim and Max when it premieres.
It was also previously confirmed by Jason DeMarco, Senior Vice President, Anime and Action Series/Longform at Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, that Rick and Morty: The Anime will be getting English dubbed episodes at some point. Unfortunately, no additional details were provided so we don't know if the dubbed episodes will be released at the same time or come afterward.
Announced back in 2022, Rick and Morty: The Anime will feature 10 episodes of original stories, some of which take inspiration from the main Rick and Morty cartoon. A previously released clip from the anime showed a giant ship being blasted out of the sky and the alien population celebrating Morty as the hero.
Rick and Morty: The Anime is a spin-off series that stems from positive fan reception to the release of numerous short films that began to air on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block back in March 2020. A total of five short films have since been released, leading to the highly anticipated full-fledged series.
Ricky and Morty: The Anime is directed by Takashi Sano and produced by Jason DeMarco of Adult Swim and Joseph Chou of Sola Entertainment. Animation production is being done by Telecom Animation Film with Sola Entertainment handling general production.
