Season 2 of Legendary Entertainment's hit multilingual French-Japanese drama Drops of God has been acquired by Apple TV+.
Produced by Legendary Entertainment, Drops of God is a live-action adaptation from the New York Times bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name, written by the award-winning Tadashi Agi, illustrated by Shu Okimoto and published by Kodansha Ltd. Set in the world of gastronomy and fine wines, the series follows two individuals competing to inherit the world's greatest wine collection.
The series stars Fleur Geffrier (“Das Boot,” “Elle”) as Camille Léger, the daughter of Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide and emblematic figure in enology, and Tomohisa Yamashita (“The Head,” “Tokyo Vice,” “Alice in Borderland”) as Issei Tomine, a brilliant young oenologist and protege of Alexandre Léger.
The series synopsis reads:
Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide and emblematic figure in oenology, has just passed away, leaving behind a daughter, Camille, who hasn’t seen her father since her parents separated when she was nine years old. When Camille flies to Tokyo and Léger’s will is read, she discovers that her father has left her an extraordinary wine collection — the greatest collection in the world according to the experts. But, to claim the inheritance, Camille must compete with a brilliant young oenologist, Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita). Biological daughter versus spiritual son: the duel is about to begin. There are three tests to break the tie, all related to wine tasting. The winner will take ownership of Léger's empire, the loser will leave empty handed. But how could Camille win such a duel? She knows nothing about wine, and worse: she has never drunk a single drop.
The eight-episode first season was released on Apple TV+ last year and received broad acclaim from critics and fans alike. The first season sits at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and an impressive 93% Audience Score.
"A saga of cutthroat competition with notes of cool intelligence, Drops of God is a sleek entertainment sure to stimulate refined palates," the critics consensus reads.
Apple TV+ and Legendary Entertainment offered a brief description of what fans can expect in the highly anticipated second season, which does not yet have a premiere date:
In season two of “Drops of God,” Camille (Geffrier) and Issei (Yamashita) once again face a nearly impossible challenge: to uncover the origin of the world’s most wonderful wine, a secret that even Alexandre Léger failed to unlock. Through a series of trials and tests, their quest will take them to far-flung corners of the globe, forcing them to face their inner demons and changing them forever.
Drops of God Season 1 director Oded Ruskin (“No Man’s Land,” “Absentia”) is returning to helm the second season. No release date has been announced, but Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+, excluding Japan.
You can find all eight episodes of Season 1 of Drops of God, which was created by Quoc Dang Tran (“Marianne,” “Parallels”) and produced by Klaus Zimmermann (“Trapped”), streaming on Apple TV+.
