On Monday, the 11th edition of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine for this year made the announcement that Tohru Fujisawa's GTO: Paradise Lost manga will take a break, with the intention of restarting publication in the early summer.
In April 2014, Fujisawa debuted the first chapter of GTO: Paradise Lost in Weekly Young Magazine. This was a spinoff of his GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) manga. The twenty-first collected book volume of the manga was released by Kodansha in November of 2022.
Crunchyroll used to make the manga available online, including the most recent chapters as soon as they were published in Japan. However, in 2018, the business decided to stop providing access to the title's back library of chapters. Kodansha USA Publishing also distributes digital versions of the manga in the English language.
In North America, Tokyopop and Vertical have released a variety of different GTO manga titles, one of which is titled GTO: The Early Years. The original manga served as the basis for a television anime, in addition to a number of adaptations in live-action. The live-action television adaption of GTO: The Early Years is scheduled to premiere in February of 2020.
Aren't familiar with GTO? Here's a recap of the plot!
Eikichi Onizuka, a virgin and former gang member, is 22 years old. At a neighborhood shopping center, Onizuka encounters a schoolgirl who accepts his invitation to go on a date. When her teacher, her current "lover," arrives at the love hotel they are in and urges her to go back to him, Onizuka's effort to sleep with her fails. She jumps from a second-story window and landing in the teacher's arms despite his age and physical appearance.
Onizuka decides to become a teacher after witnessing this demonstration of a teacher's control over girls. However, he barely succeeds in earning his teaching degree from a subpar university. He learns two crucial things along his quest: he has a conscience and a sense of morality. This rules out taking advantage of impressionable schoolgirls, but it makes an exception for their extraordinarily gorgeous mothers.
He enjoys instructing, and most of the time he focuses on imparting life lessons as opposed to typical academic material. He despises the old educational system, particularly when other educators and administrators have become insensitive to students and their needs. He decides to become the best teacher ever after coming to these realizations, using his own special brand of philosophy and his propensity to accomplish practically anything when under enough duress.
In order to control a class that has driven one teacher to a strange death, another to a nervous breakdown, and a third to joining a cult, a privately run middle school in Kichijji hires him as a long shot teacher. By personally reaching out to each pupil and assisting them in overcoming their issues and learning to love life, he sets out on a journey of self-discovery. He employs unconventional, unlawful, and perhaps lethal methods, but he nevertheless manages to open up and educate his students.
