Netflix is hoping to become a major competitor in the new age of streaming services creating original content for members. The American based streaming/renting service, Netflix, dumps an additional 8-billion dollars in an effort to add 30 new original anime shows to its library by 2018, including 80 original films by 2019. This bump in new anime-related content is most likely due to the genre branching into the entertainment industry with the recent trend of live adaptions and anime releases in the U.S.
This is a new venture for Netflix to start becoming a content creator instead of streaming shows and renting DVDs that are already in the market. Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief of content, wishes to have Netflix be 50% original content by the end of this year to give the sense of exclusivity for members. Already Netflix has exclusive streaming rights for anime shows like;
The Seven Deadly Sins, Knights of Sidonia, Ajin, Little Witch Academia, and the movie
Blame! However, they only recently started creating their own anime series with
Neo YoKio starting actors like Jaden Smith, Jude Law and Susan Sarandon with mediocre feedback from the community.
Here is a current list of some new shows that will be premiering on Netflix in the coming months and 2018.
