About Overlord:
Overlord is a Japanese light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. It began serialization online in 2010, before being acquired by Enterbrain, who then published the first light novel volume in 2012. The series has since gained significant popularity and acclaim.
Overlord takes place in the year 2138, where virtual reality gaming is booming. The story revolves around a player named Momonga who decides to stay logged into his favorite DMMO-RPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), "Yggdrasil," as the servers are about to be shut down. However, instead of being logged out, Momonga finds himself transported into the game world, along with the NPCs who have developed their own personalities. Trapped in the form of his game avatar, a powerful skeletal wizard, Momonga explores this new world, seeking to unravel its mysteries and find other players like himself, all while establishing his rule.
The main character, Momonga/Ainz Ooal Gown, is the focal point of the series. He is the guild master of "Ainz Ooal Gown," a group of powerful players in Yggdrasil. The series also features a diverse cast of NPCs from the guild's stronghold, the Great Tomb of Nazarick, who are fiercely loyal to Momonga and possess unique personalities and abilities.
The anime adaptation of Overlord was produced by Madhouse and first aired in July 2015. It closely follows the storyline of the light novels and has been praised for its faithful adaptation, high-quality animation, and compelling narrative.
The anime adaptation of Overlord is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll!
Overlord has been well-received both in Japan and internationally. It has been praised for its complex storyline, character depth, and the unique approach of presenting a protagonist who blurs the lines between hero and anti-hero. The light novel and anime have both contributed to a growing fanbase, leading to the production of manga adaptations, audio dramas, and video games.
