It was recently revealed that Crunchyroll and Adult Swim would be working on a brand new original anime called Fena: Pirate Princess. The series follows a young girl named Fena Houtman, who is on the run from pirates and the navy and seeks aid from a group of samurai to protect her.
Inspired by shojo manga, director Kazuto Nakazawa states the inspiration for the series, stating: “It made me want to make an anime with a flavor of Shojo manga in it. Fena: Pirate Princess” has adventure and action “...but it is basically a love story.” The new series features animation from Production I.G. and looks to be a huge hit.
A brand new trailer for the series was released that features a ton of new footage for the show. Some production art featuring the titular heroine was also revealed.
Fena Houtman remembers little about her childhood. Orphaned and raised as a servant in a brothel, her life changes when she escapes to an island of pirates where she discovers the truth behind her family. With Fena being the only one able to unlock her family’s secrets, and a formidable crew of female pirates on her tail, she must take her place as captain of her Samurai crew for a high seas adventure!
Fena: Pirate Princess is coming subbed to Crunchyroll and dubbed to Adult Swim's Toonami this summer.
