Easily one of the most exciting reveals to come out of Netflix's TUDUM event, we finally have a trailer and premiere date for the streamer's live-action adaptation of One Piece

As well as offering our best look yet at the show's leads, it quickly becomes apparent that a lot of love has been put into the series. That's evident from the shot of Luffy's Gum-Gum Pistol, with VFX used to show the wannabe Pirate King using his Rubber Person Devil Fruit powers to deliver a stretchy, powerful punch.

Elsewhere, we see a handful of iconic locations from the franchise, including the Straw Hat Pirates' ship, the Going Merry, and the sea-faring restaurant, The Baratie.

One of the most iconic manga series ever made, One Piece first debuted in 1997 and has since gone on to become a massive franchise that's outsold the likes of Dragon Ball and Naruto

Beyond this teaser, very little has been revealed about what to expect from Netflix's small screen adaptation. The manga, however, takes place on an alternate version of Earth that's in the midst of the "Golden Age of Pirates." They all hope to lay claim to the "One Piece" left behind by the world's greatest pirate, Gol D. Roger, prompting the young Monkey D. Luffy to raise a crew and become the Pirate King.

Luffy also has superpowers granted by a devil fruit that made his body like rubber and granted him incredible strength and agility. The moment he comes of age the young hero sets out on his quest.

Steven Maeda is serving as One Piece's showrunner, and his past credits include The X FilesLostLie to MeHelix, and Day Break. We're expecting 10 episodes, though there have been rumblings Netflix may have reduced that to 8.

The main cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

One Piece premieres on Netflix on August 31, later this year.
