Netflix found that they had a surprise hit in Squid Game, which was released this year. The gruesome series follows "degenerates and criminals" facing off in a series of deadly children's games in an attempt to clear their debts.
While that concept may be fairly new to those who consume strictly Western media, there have been plenty of manga and anime titles with similar concepts that are simply overlooked because they aren't in live-action - or in English. As Squid Game managed to navigate around the Korean dialogue to deliver the goods, so too are the hopes of Tomodachi Game.
Meaning "friendship game" Tomodachi Game is the title of a thriller manga series that sees contestants brought together to participate in a deadly series of games, but the twist here is that all the contestants competing with one another are friends, rather than strangers.
