Final EUREKA SEVEN : HI - EVOLUTION Anime Film Receives Summer 2021 Japan Release Date

Final EUREKA SEVEN : HI - EVOLUTION Anime Film Receives Summer 2021 Japan Release Date

After numerous delays, it appears that the third and final film in the Eureka Seven: Hi - Evolution anime film reboot series will be released this summer.

It's been nearly three years since AnimeMojo first covered news of a new Eureka Seven anime film trilogy but it now appears that we're fast approaching the end!

Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution (Kōkyōshihen Eureka Sebun: Haieboryūshon) was originally slated for release in late-2019 but was delayed to 2021, completely bypassing 2020.  Perhaps the folks at Studio Bones somehow knew how disastrous 2020 would be? Thanks to this newest teaser trailer, we now know that the film will hit theaters in Japan Early-Summer 2021.

Eureka Seven is an original anime TV series created by Studio Bones which debuted on April 17, 2005. The original run consisted of 50 episodes and recounted the tale of fourteen-year-old Renton Thurston and his dreams of a grander life. Renton has his wish granted when the Nirvash type ZERO mecha, and the mysterious Eureka inexplicably drop from the sky one day.

The 50-episode TV anime concluded on April 2, 2006, giving rise to a number of related spinoffs and tie-ins including a 2005 Monthly Shōnen Ace manga series that recounted the events of the TV series, two PlayStation 2 video games set before the events of the anime titled The New Wave and The New Vision, and a 2009 anime film trilogy which featured Renton and Eureka in a parallel world. A 24-episode sequel TV anime series was released in 2012, titled Eureka Seven: AO and follows Eureka and Renton's son, Ao.

The first installment in the new anime film trilogy reboot/alternate-telling was released in Japan on September 16, 2017, followed by a second installment on  November 10, 2018. Funimation provided a limited theatrical release for the first film here in the U.S. in February 2018.  Texas-based Funimaiton held a screening of the second film at Anime Expo 2019 and held a special free screening at the Alamo drafthouse on October 2019. It looks like Funimation planned to release the second film in select theaters in 2019 but it doesn't look as if that actually happened.
