Hulu Ends Free Streaming Service As Yahoo! View Launches

Hulu has long been a prime destination for free (legal) anime streaming but it's moving to a 100% paid-subscription model in order to raise the competition with Netflix. However, Yahoo! View is on the horizon.

Hulu will soon be going the way of Netflix, opting for a 100% paid-subscription service. Hulu currently offers a $7.99 monthly service with limited commercial interruptions and a $11.99 monthly service with no commercials. In the past, programs were available for free on Hulu but the free option meant you were forced to sit through a TON of commercials and new episodes were available after a time delay. Yahoo! View will be the new home of Hulu's free streaming programs so look for your favorite anime and K-dramas there.  Hulu also aired dubbed and uncensored anime through their partnership with the Viz Media owned Neon Alley.

While the majority of the new anime shows premiering each season stream on Crunchyroll, there are a select few that end up being streamed exclusively on Hulu, Daisuki, FUNimation, Amazon and Netflix.  Whether Yahoo! View will stream new anime titles or rely on a preexisting catalog remains to be seen.  Currently, the anime selection on Yahoo View! is quite datated but that could all change when Hulu makes the switch to paid-subscription.  Here's how the current subscritption prices breakdown:

Crunchyroll: $6.95 monthly
Daisuki: $5/month
Hulu: $7.99/$11.99 monthly
FUNimation: $39.95/year or $4.95 month
Amazon Prime: $99/year or $10.99/month
Netflix: $7.99/$9.99 monthly
Yahoo! View: Free
