Producer Steven Paul apparently believes the time is right for Western filmgoers to be introduced to Japanese anime and manga properties. After Ghost in the Shell, Paul plans to produce a Western remake of Lone Wolf and Cub. Created in 1970, the manga has already spawned six films, four plays and a TV series. Paul has setup the project at Paramount Pictures under the title, "Lone Wolf and Cub: Final Conflict." Perhaps learning from the controversy surrounding Ghost in the Shell, Paul remakred in a press release that Lone Wolf and Cub will "have an essential Japanese cast" despite being in English.
Current Stark Trek Beyond director Justin Lin (who's currently
rumored to be up for Akira) was previously attached to a similar Western remake but that project eventually stalled out.
