The announcement that a new musical version of the Code Geass anime franchise will be performed in September 2023 was made over the weekend during the AnimeJapan 2023 panel for the PC Browser and smartphone game Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Lost Stories! In the past, the animation has been reworked into both a traditional play and three different musicals for the stage. In April of 2012, the world premiere of the first stage adaptation of Code Geass, a play titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Souran Eve (Riot's Eve), was held. And a musical adaptation featuring an all-male cast, Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion- Majin ni Sasageru Prelude (A Prelude Dedicated to the Sorcerror), was performed in June 2012, and then its live show version, Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion: A-LIVE FANTASTIC DREAM SHOW, followed in September 2013.
Kouji Kominami, age 28, previously known for his role as Jun Arashiyama in the World Trigger stage plays, has been newly cast in the role of the protagonist Lelouch Lamperouge in the upcoming new musical adaptation. Ryotaro Akazawa, age 26, previously known for his role as Todomatsu in the Mr. Osomatsu stage plays, plays another protagonist, Suzaku Kururugi. In the near future, further particulars, such as the performance timetable, will be disclosed.
Kominami wrote on Twitter:
"I am very happy to be involved in this historic and popular series. We will deliver a wonderful work." And Akazawa also said, "I have loved this series since I was a student, so I am very much looking forward to acting in it! I will do my best to make it a wonderful work!"
