One of the most popular manga and anime of all time has, once again, shattered another record in a criminally short amount of time. Since its debut, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has already become the second-highest selling manga of all time, with its completion earlier this year and has already built a franchise from the action-packed story.
With the success of the manga, an anime series was not far behind and, so far, has released one season that has become one of the most loved series in the past few years. Now, a new film has released that continues the story, titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ~The Movie~ Mugen Train!
When pre-sale tickets went live, multiple sights were shut down due to massive amounts of traffic. While this was a telltale sign of how well the movie was predicted to do, it in no way prepared anyone for the amount of money it would be obtained in its opening weekend.
According to sources in Japan, the film has not only made a record of 1 million in attendance for opening day, but it has also made 4.6 billion yen in its box office earnings in its opening weekend! At about $43.8 million in United States currency, the film is the highest-grossing film ever in Japan.
There is a magic to the series that can't be understood, but whatever it is, it has managed to keep fans both engaged and in adoration of one of the best franchises coming out of Japan. We would love to hear your thoughts on the news in the comments below!
