Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was created by Koyoharu Gotogue and released back in 2016. The manga was an immense hit and recently completed its series earlier this year, solidifying its place as the second-highest selling manga under the long-running series, One Piece by Eiichiro Oda.
Since the manga was such a success, an anime was later greenlit that not only did well in Japan but skyrocketed the popularity of the series to worldwide proportions! While there is only one season out right now, the story continued with a brand new film titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ~The Movie ~ Mugen Train.
Before the movie had even been released, the website for pre-order tickets had crashed, and after the official premiere, the film became the highest-grossing movie in Japan ever. According to a recent report from Deadline, the film is officially the highest-grossing IMAX film in Japan of all-time! Cumulatively, the film has grossed a whopping 23,349,291,050 yen ($223 million) and is still having showings not just in Japan but worldwide!
With so many showings still left worldwide, could the film make it to North America? We would love to hear your thoughts on the earnings in the comments below!
