The second season of
The Heroic Legend of Arslan will premiere on July 3 in Japan. The second season will consist of 8 episodes, dissapointing news for fans after the first season consisted of 25 episodes. The first anime season adopted the first 8 volumes of the second manga adapting Yoshiki Tanaka's fantasy novel series (vol 8 ch 34). The Heroic Legend of Arslan is an ongoing Japanese fantasy novel series first began in 1986 by Yoshiki Tanaka. There are currently 15 novels and one spinoff, side story. A manga was created in 1991, however it soon caught up with the number of published novels in the series and recieved an original ending in 1996. In 2013, a new manga series was begun that would adhere more closely to the source material. A 25-episode anime series (based on the second manga) was commissioned in 2015 from Sanzigen and Linden Films.
The manga borrows heavily from the characters and concpets contained in the Persian epic of Amir Arsalan.
