The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues to earn money all across the world, exceeding US$1.1 billion over the course of the previous weekend, with Japan rising to be the 5th biggest region for the Nintendo/Illumination film in just a little bit more than a Golden Week. This demonstrates that the power of the Brooklyn plumbers has no borders, and that their influence knows no limits.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed 4.67 million tickets in Japan as of the 7th of May, bringing in a total of 6.5 billion yen, which is equivalent to $47.59 million USD. In the last week, Mario became the third fastest film to ever reach the 5 billion yen mark, along with Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine and JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 at just nine days. This achievement places Mario in a tie for third place among all films.
According to The Numbers, the worldwide gross for The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently at US$1.159 billion, making it the picture with the biggest total revenue ever for the animation company Illumination. This puts it just ahead of Minions, which had a worldwide gross of US$1.157 billion. It is also currently the 24th highest-grossing film of all time across the entire planet at this point.
