The first promotional video and key visual for the forthcoming fantasy rom-com anime series based on Sarasa Nagase's I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss light novels were both unveiled on the official website for the project. In addition, the website revealed additional cast members who will be joining the untraditional character ensemble.
Kumiko Habara is in charge of directing the anime over at Maho Film. Kenta Ihara is responsible for writing and supervising the scripts for the series. Character designers Momoko Makiuchi, Eri Kojima, and Yūko Ōba are responsible for creating the cast of unique characters. Natsumi Tabuchi, Hanae Nakamura, Miki Sakurai, Sayaka Aoki, and Kanade Sakuma will be composing the music.
Yen Press, the company that publishes the official English version of the light novels, summarizes the series as follows:
When her engagement to the prince ends unceremoniously, details of the young noblewoman Aileen's past life come rushing back and help her realize she's living inside the world of one of her favorite otome games—as the heroine's greatest rival! The first broadcasts of the anime are scheduled to take place in October 2022 on Tokyo MX, MBS, BS-TBS, and WOWOW.
In May of 2017, the series written by Sarasa Nagase first appeared on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, which is dedicated to the publication of user-generated novels. It was purchased by Kadokawa Shoten, and on September 1, 2017, they started publishing it as a light novel under their Kadokawa Beans Bunko imprint. Mai Murasaki was responsible for the illustrations that accompanied the book. Yen Press is the company that holds the license for the light novel in North America. As of the month of October 2021, a total of nine volumes had been published.
A manga adaptaion was published by Anko Yuzu in the Seinen Manga Magazine Comp Ace published by Kadokawa Shoten between June 2018 and August 2019. It was compiled into a total of three tankōbon volumes. Yen Press is also the company that holds the license to publish the manga in the North American market.
