Young Champion Retsu magazine's February issue, published by Akita Shoten, made the announcement on Tuesday that an adaptation of Yasuyuki Kosaka's Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater (Hakago Teibo Nisshi) manga will begin airing as a live-action series early this summer.
In February 2017, Kosaka debuted his first ongoing manga series with the publication of the manga in Young Champion Retsu. The manga's serialization was put on hold twice in 2020 and did not officially begin again until April 2021. On February 20th, the tenth volume of the manga will be released by Akita Shoten. Currently, the series has sold over one million copies.
In April of 2020, the first episode of the television anime adaptation of the manga was shown. After a pause caused by COVID-19, the anime finally resumed its regular showing in July 2020. Funimation Studios have been streaming the anime since it first aired in Japan and the animation series currently has 12 episodes released for viewership.
Here's a quick overview of the manga's plot:
Hina Tsurugi is the protagonist of this anime series, which is adapted from Yasuyuki Kosaka's character of the same name. She is a first-year student who relocates to a coastal town. Even though Tsurugi is more of an "indoor kid" who enjoys activities such as arts and crafts, an older student at her school named Yuuki Kuroiwa invites her to become a member of the school's fishing club. This unexpectedly thrusts her into the world of fishing, despite the fact that she is not particularly outdoorsy.
Each episode details the fishing adventures of Hina and the fishing club, and the lessons they learn along the way. Whether it's how to remove the gills from a fish, or how to properly cast their poles. It targets a youthful audience by illustrating simple tasks within the show and teaching those at a younger skill level to properly problem-solve when new problems may arise.
The show centers around the fishing club theme and it details all of their adventures while out in the wild. One does not need to be a fan of fishing in order to find this show adorable in its concepts and illustrations. The little lessons allow for a fun experience for the viewers and target a youth audience (although you really can be any age to enjoy!)
It will be fun to see how the live adaptation turns out! It will be fun to see how/if they use real fish for the adaptation, and how that will look on the screen!
