Today on their official UK Twitter page, Bandai sent out this tweet in anticipation for their new turn-based simulation RPG game,
Digimon Survive:
The original Anime was produced by
Bandai but based off the virtual pet toys created by Akiyoshi Hongo (a pseudonym used by the creators of
Tamagotchi). They had used a pseudonym to differentiate a market of toys for boys, as
Tamagotchis were not popular in that market. That is where
Digimon, short for '
Digital Monsters,' came to life. In Early 1999, they released their first movie which spawned a sequel later that year, the television Anime,
Digimon Adventure, and the rest they say is history. The series would go on to spawn over a dozen games for all the major consoles, and creating more than 7 other Anime spinoffs.
Digimon Survive builds on the usual JRPG (Japanese RPG) style of games, where its traditionally turn based (similar to classic
Final Fantasy or
Pokemon series games), the gameplay adds an extra dimension along the lines of
Fire Emblem or
Banner Saga series games, where players must move their characters around a board for more strategical gameplay.
Here's the announcement trailer for the game, bringing Takuma and Agumon back to life:
Digimon Survive does not have an official release date, with only the year 2019 attached to its name, and it will be available for PC, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
