ONE PIECE Star Inaki Godoy Reveals The Three Anime Scenes He Wants To Recreate In Live-Action

Netflix's One Piece live-action series has been highly regarded as one of the most successful adaptations of an anime series — and that's no easy feat considering the sheer magnitude of the anime that it is based on.

A big reason for the series' success has to do with the young actors portraying the Straw Hat Pirates. Not only are they incredible actors, but they are fans of the anime series. They know the source material and can approach it with the respect it deserves.

To that end, actor Inaki Godoy, who plays Monkey D. Luffy in the Netflix series, revealed three major scenes from the anime that he would love to recreate in live-action.

Although Godoy acknowledged there are many scenes from the anime he'd like to adapt, the actor's top three are Vivi's farewell at the end of the Alabasta Arc, Nico Robin's "I Want To Live" scene from the Ennies Lobby Arc, and the entirety of the Marineford Arc.

I think many fans of the anime would agree these are some fantastic moments in the series. But they are also quite far off in terms of where the live-action series currently is right now. Season 1, which consisted of just eight episodes, did a solid job of covering quite a few arcs.

The first season ended with the Loguetown Arc and Polestar Islands Arc. The season ended with Luffy and Shanks celebrating him finally getting his own wanted poster and the Straw Hats setting sail to the Grand Line. The joyous occasion was halted by a teaser that showed a mysterious figure using a cigar to burn through Luffy's wanted poster.

Netflix hasn't shared official details for Season 2, but the streamer did share a video in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime which may have doubled as our first teaser. If what we saw in the video was indeed a clue — a cake that resembles a candle and the wick shaped like the number three — then Season 2 of the hit series will follow the Arabasta arc, which features the Baroque Works criminal syndicate.

The Alabasta arc is the last of the Alabasta saga's five-part story arc, while the Nico Robin scene is about a story arc and a half after the events of Alabasta. The Marineford Arc serves as the series pre-time skip arc. Suffice to say, it may be a while before the Netflix series gets to any of these anticipated scenes.

Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation premiered its first season on August 31, 2023. The series was met with rave reviews by critics and fans alike, and Netflix didn't wait long to announce a second season. We still don't have a premiere date yet, but Netflix is reportedly targeting a 2025 debut with filming expected to begin in June 2024.
