While 2019's Detective Pikachu, the first live-action Pokémon film, wasn't a blockbuster, it was a hit with fans and critics and a new report from Variety has Pokémon fans exited! According to the new report, Netflix is in the early development stages of a new live-action Pokémon television series.
While there aren't any plot details to share, it has been confirmed that Lucifer co-showrunner and executive producer Joe Henderson is attached to write and produce the series. Aside from Lucifer, Henderson has worked on other TV projects including Graceland and White Collar. He is also currently workin gon a Netflix adaptation of the comic book Shadecraft.
Netflix currently has several seasons of the Pokémon animated series available on it streaming service and now looks ready to capitalize on the popularity of the franchise with this new live-action series.
There are also live-action adaptations of other popular anime properties in the works over at Netflix including Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.
Pokémon, an acroynym for "Pocket Monsters", is a japanese media franchise founded by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures. It was created in 1995 by Satoshi Tajiri. The world is based upon Pokémon and their human trainers. Pokémon have appeared in card games, video games, TV, animated features and live-action with 2019's Detective Pikachu.
