After launchign in 2011 and releasing 24 volumes, the Nisekoi manga is entering its climactic arc and should reveal long sought-answers in the double-chapter release in next month's Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump!.
At long last, we might finally learn which "best-girl" has the right key to the locket around Raku Ichijo's neck. Written and illustrated by Naoshi Komi, there have been numerous false alarms and red herrings concerning the identity of the girl who is Ichijo's one true-love he met during childhood. For those unfamiliar, Ichijo is the son of a yakuza boss who had three female childhood playmates. He made a promise with one of them to eventually reunite, with the clinching factor being the key Ichijo gave to one of them that corresponds to the locket he has worn around his neck for the last 10 years. The only problem is, that promise was made when they were all fairly young and no one can quite remember all the details.
One of the girls in question is Chitoge Kirisaki, daughter of a rival European mob boss moving in on the Ichijo clan's turf. A tenuous peace is brokered when the two rival mob bosses agree to have their two, teenage children date. Complicating matters is the fact that Kirisaki and Ichijo actually met long ago and Chitoge could be the one with the key. Another candidate is Ichijo's current crush, Kosaki Onodera, who is also revealed to eventually be a childhood playmate of Kirisaki and Ichijo, who is another candidate to possess the key. Another wrinkle is Marika Tachibana, another childhood friend that could possess the key. She is the daughter of the police chief, which makes for many interesting scenarios, given Ichijo and Kirisaki's connection to the yakuza/mob.
The manga has actually revealed who possesses the right key to Ichijo's locket but there's a plot twist (which we won't disclose) that may cause Ichijo to not end up with his childhood sweetheart.
