Buoyed by a special anime episode that aired in 2020, Rick and Morty is coming back with an entire anime season from Telecom Animation Film (Lupin III, Shenmue the Animation).
The 10-episode series will be written and directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God). Sano previously directed the series' anime episode, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider.
Tetsuya Takahashi will serve as the series' music composer.
The Rick and Morty anime will retell key events from the ongoing animated series. The show was first announced back in 2021, so it's been a long, development road for the special.
The opening is titled Love is Entropy and is performed by Code of Zero singer OC. The j-rock band formed in 2018 and blends an eclectic mix of rock, electronica, and pop.
Back in 2020, Rick and Morty debuted Samurai & Shogun from Studio DEEN, which really got the wheels turning among the fandom for a potential anime. A sequel would follow in 2021.
Previously, Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, said, "We're incredibly excited to expand the Rick and Morty universe with this anime series. It's an amazing opportunity to explore the characters and stories in a different way, and we're excited to see what the talented team at Telecom Animation Film does with it."
Sano also added, "I'm a huge fan of Rick and Morty, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to work on this project. I'm excited to see how the Rick and Morty universe translates to anime, and I can't wait to share it with fans."
