Where did Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy go wrong? The show pretty faithfully covered the source material and featured costumes that were ripped straight from the pages of the Mark Millar and Frank Quitely comic. Nevertheless, the trades are reporting that the series (which cost an estimated $200M) did not reach Netflix's expectations.
However, Netflix purchased the Millarworld comic line in 2017 for an undisclosd (but reportedly very high) sum with the express intent of adapting the various comics as television and films so th streamer can't simply wash their hands and move one. Instead, it's back to the drawing board and instead of a Jupiter's Legacy sequel, Netflix will start developing a live-action adaptation of Supercrooks, a comic that focues on the supervillains that inhabit the world of Jupiter's Legacy. However, Netflix released the entire Jupiter's Legacy cast from their contracts so don't count on Josh Duhamel's Utopian or Leslie Bibb's Lady Liberty to show up.
However, before the live-action adaptation of Supercrooks arrives, an anime-inspired TV show is set to be released later in 2021. It will actually premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which runs from June 14-19. Millar himself has taken to Twitter to recveal that the series is produced by Studio Bones.
It's likely that we may get a first look at the TV anime during Netflix's Geeked Week, which kicks off June 7-11. The anime already has a landing page on Netflix, so it may be arriving sooner than fans expect!
