If you are a fan of the anime series Made In Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ōgonkyō) then we have some exciting news! Following the end of the most recent season this past September, Kadokawa, the series publisher, announced Sunday that they have the series' sequel greenlit!

The first season of Made in Abyss came out back in July 2017. Following the first season's release a sequel film titled Dawn of the Deep Soul was released in Japan in January 2020. Following the film's release the most recent second season, titled Made In Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, was released between July and September of 2022.

Don't know much about Made In Abyss? Well here's a little summary for you!

Riko, an orphan, is one of the residents of the Belchero Orphanage, which is located in the town of Orth. The Abyss is a peculiar and enormous pit that extends to a great depth into the earth, and the town is situated all around it. As a result of the Abyss's capacity to store artifacts and relics from long-vanished civilizations, it is a well-known destination for treasure hunters known as "Cave Raiders."

The Cave Raiders make laborious and perilous journeys into the mist-filled pit in order to retrieve whatever artifacts or relics they can find. Ascending from the Abyss puts one at risk of contracting "the Curse of the Abyss," an unknown illness with the potential to be lethal. This condition appears upon ascension. As one travels deeper into the cavern, the effects of the curse become increasingly severe; very few people who have fallen into the bottom regions have survived to recount their experiences. White Whistles are a select group of legendary Cave Raiders and among them is Riko's mother, Lyza, who is thought to have perished during her "final plunge" into the Abyss.

Riko's ambition in life is to become a White Whistle like her mother before her. She wants to carry on the family tradition. One day, while exploring the first tier of the Abyss, she comes across a boy that is half-human and half-robot, and she gives him the name Reg (after a dog that Riko owned). Riko and her friends secretly let Reg into Belchero, and once he's there, they don't waste any time integrating him into their tight-knit community.

After some time has passed, a number of discoveries have been made from the depths of the Abyss. These discoveries include Lyza's White Whistle as well as pages of discoveries and observations she had made. Additionally, a message that appears to be addressed to Riko states that she is waiting at the bottom of the Abyss. Riko, who is adamant about tracking down her mother, says her goodbyes to her pals and sneaks away to travel into the Abyss with Reg as her traveling companion.

We'll keep you updated with more information about the release of the third season as details are released and available. Let us know what you think about the series so far in the comments below!
