Aoashi is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi, with the original run beginning in January 2015 in the Big Comic Spirits magazine. As of May 2021, a total of 24 volumes have been published and over 4.5 million copies sold (including digital). The manga won the 65th Shojakukan Manga Award for the General category in 2020.
The Aoashi series will be directed by Akira Sato, the scripts will be written by Masahiro Yokotani and the character designs inspired by Manabu Nakatake, Toshie Kawamura, Asuka Yamaguchi, and Saki Hasegawa, with Nakatake and Yamaguchi also serving as chief animation directors. Masaru Yokoyama is composing the series' music. The anime adaptaion by Production I.G is set to premiere in April 2022.
A list of voice actors includes Koki Ohsuzu, who will be making his voice acting debut as the main character, Ashito Aoi. Tatsumaru Tachibana (The God Of High School), Seiiciro Yamashita (RUMBLE GARANNDOLL) and Taku Yashiro (Horimiya).
The story tells the tale of a young football player, Ashito Aoi and his exciting journey and experiences in the Tokyo Esperion youth soccer academy, including his dream to become a pro. Ashito seems a little rough around the edges and suffers some big set backs due to his very straightforward personality, but behind all of this lies his limitless potential and immense talent. He catches the eye of the youth team manager for the J1 football club Tokyo City Esperion, Fukuda, who sees his potential and invites him to join in on the team tryouts in Tokyo.
