Tokyo Mew Mew, the popular manga series written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a brand-new anime series launching in 2022 - Tokyo Mew Mew New.
A short teaser trailer (included below) has been released confirming the cast for the upcoming anime, inluding Yuuki Temma (Ichigo Momomiya), Mirai Hinata (Minto Aizawa), Ryoko Juni (Retasu Midorikawa), Rian Toda (Purin Fong), and Momoka Ishii (Zakuro Fujiwara).
Smewthie, the cast listed above, released a Mew Mew-themed music video earlier this year to celebrate the upcoming series. You can check it out on YouTube by clicking here!
Along with the teaser trailer above, Tokyo Mew Mew New also has a new visual for the series (included below). The new artwork brings all of the characters together and even teases new battle outfits!
Tokyo Mew Mew was originally serialized in Kodansha's shōjo manga magazine Nakayoshi in September of 2000. The series follows five girls who are infused with the DNA of endangered animals, giving them special powers and allowing them to transform into "Mew Mews". The friends protecte Earth from aliens.
The original Tokyo Mew Mew anime series by Studio Pierrot consisted of 52 episodes and debuted in Japan in February of 2002. There have also been two video games based on the series.
