Casting on the second season of Netflix's live-action One Piece adaptation is underway, and new details are starting to emerge.
The social media page One Piece Netflix Fan — a Twitter account dedicated to the live-action anime series — recently got a hold of a casting call sent out for Season 2 of the hit series. From it emerged two key details for the second season.
The first major detail, if true, suggests that Miss Goldenweek will be appearing in the second season. The casting call reads:
"Female, any ethnicity. A deadpan Wednesday Addams type. Don't be fooled by her youthful appearance and childlike demeanor. She's a twisted killer with supernatural powers of persuasion, who can make her victims obey her every sadistic whim. Instead of making friends, she finds it easier to make people into playthings, turning them into living dolls at her tea party of horrors. Even our protagonist – a stalwart optimist with unshakable dreams – finds his will sapped in her presence. When our heroes find a way to turn the tables on her, she'll pay the price with a taste of her own depraved medicine. Seeking 18+ to play young to late teens. Recurring guest star."
Miss Goldenweek, also known as the "Flag-Bearer of Freedom," is an officer agent of Baroque Works and the partner of Mr. 3. She's the secondary antagonist in the Little Garden arc.
Not long ago, Netflix shared a brief video celebrating the 25th anniversary of the One Piece manga, which may have also doubled as a teaser for Season 2 of the live-action adaptation. In the video, actor Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Monkey D. Luffy in the live-action series, is seen with a cake that resembles a candle. And at the top of the cake was an actual candle shaped like the number three — effectively referencing Galdino, aka Mr. 3.
From this video stems the belief that Season 2 of One Piece will follow the Arabasta arc, featuring the Baroque Works criminal syndicate. As such, we can probably expect an adaptation of the Little Garden Arc as well.
In addition to the search for Ms. Goldenweek, the fan page also notes that the casting call mentions Season 2 consisting of eight episodes. This would be the same length as the first season in the series, which would almost certainly mean some storyline condensing will be needed — especially since the Arabasta saga is pretty expansive. Netflix has yet to provide official confirmation on Season 2's episode count, but the live-action series is scheduled to begin production this summer.
