Hitting theaters on August 6, 2022, Toei Animation's One Piece Film Red is winding down its theater presence later this month. As mentioned on its social media page right before the turn of the year, it will end its theatrical run on January 26, 2023.
This isn't to say the movie is going to stop being shown at theaters completely, it just means theaters like Toho Cinema or Aeon Cinema are shying away from showing the film. Smaller theaters may still play it and not affect the movie's stellar box office results.
It should come as no surprise that One Piece Film Red saw such great success, its anime has over 1,000 episodes, and considering how long it's been running, people are rather invested in Luffy and co's journey. That being said, despite being the most profitable movie in Japanese cinema of 2022 and the 12th highest-grossing anime movie worldwide, it fell just short of breaking into the top 10 favorite films in The Land of the Rising Sun of 2022.
On the bright side, though, the film came in sixth place on the list and marked itself as Toei Animation's highest-grossing project and the ninth-highest-grossing One Piece media of all time. Theaters in the United States and Canada followed suit, starting to air One Piece Film Red in November, but there isn't quite a mention yet if the deadline is going to follow Japan's cut-off date or if those in the States will get a bit more time.
