It's been less than a week since Netmarble's Solo Leveling: Arise officially launched and already the action mobile/PC game has surpassed 15 million downloads globally.
Solo Leveling: Arise is the first game adaptation of the Solo Leveling franchise, based on the hit Webtoon.
The free-to-play action game officially launched on May 8th. It's available to download on Google Play and the App Store for Android and iOS devices, as well as on PC. It will be coming to Steam at some point during Q3 2024.
Pre-registration for the game was actually opened back in March with over 12 million fans globally signing up. It seems that many plus a few million more have now actually downloaded it since its launch this month.
"The brand new mobile and PC action game continues its legacy by scoring top downloads in the App Store on the first day of its global launch across 79 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, France and many more," Netmarble announced. "More than 5 million Daily Active Users (DAU) were recorded on the first day of the game’s launch. Additionally, Solo Leveling: ARISE is currently ranked number one on the “Top Free Games” chart from the Google Play Store in South Korea, Taiwan and more."
In celebration of this milestone, players are now able to acquire 3,000 Essence Stones when they reach Level 10 in the game.
In Solo Leveling: Arise, players take on the role of Jinwoo, the main character from the webtoon, and experience his journey firsthand. Once nicknamed "The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind," Jinwoo — a former E-Rank hunter — gained access to a system that helped him become more powerful, including the ability to turn the dead into his Shadow Soldiers.
As players progress through the action-filled story, they'll level up to learn new skills and unlock different weapons, opening up dynamic combat styles depending on their combinations. Additionally, players will be able to team up with other hunters from the original webtoon, including Choi Jong-In, Baek Yoonho, and Cha Hae-In. Each hunter's abilities will help in forming strategies, combining their powers to clear each gate. Speaking of gates, inside each one are magic beasts from the original webtoon that are waiting with a new challenge.
Solo Leveling: Arise is based on the webtoon adaptation of the South Korean web novel written by Chugong (and serialized in Kakao's digital comic in 2016). There's also an anime series adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures that aired from January to March 2024. A second season, titled Arise from the Shadow, is also on the way.
The first 16 episodes of the Solo Leveing anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll, which describes the series:
They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them.
It's reported that Solo Leveling Season 2 will be released by the end of this year.
