It was generally assumed that there was no way the Read or Die series from Studio Orphee's Hideyuki Kurata (writer) and Taraku Uon (illustrator) would be continuing since it went on hiatus a decade ago. However, Shueisha's Dash X imprint surprised readers today with the announcement that there would be two more volumes released, with Volume 12 going on sale this August and Volume 13 being released in 2017.
In addition to the light novels, Kurata also wrote the Read or Die manga series, which was illustrated by Shutaro Yamada. A sequel to the manga, Read or Dream, was published in 2002 and illustrated by Ran Ayanaga. It served as the source material for the OVA sequel anime, R.O.D. -The TV series.
The first volume of the series went on sale in 2000 and volume 11 was published in 2006 with the promise of a 12th volume soon to come. An OVA was released in 2001 by Studio Dee. A 26-episode TV anime sequel to the OVA was commissioned by Aniplex and animated by J.C. Staff in 2003.
