The SHIROBAKO anime series has always been known for its stellar animation and also its ability to give an inside look at what developing an anime is like. The series also focused on the main character's friends, who all worked in different parts of the same animation studio, with very different and specific tasks.
What made the show so entertaining was that it pulled no punches when it came to the industry's stress and rigors and the expectations that are set. There is always a deadline, and as the viewer learns about the difficulties that come with each role in the studio, it shows just how special and important this type of work is.
A film set four years after the series titles, SHIROBAKO The Movie, was released in Japan this past February to massive praise, even releasing a remastered version a few months later in Japan. While the film was a hit, it was never released in the west; however, thanks to a tweet from North American distributor Eleven Arts, they have officially acquired the film!
Further details on how the movie will release to the masses will be explained in a new trailer released during the ANIME NYC Virtual Convention later this month. We would love to hear your thoughts on the new acquisition in the comments below!
Four years after the events of SHIROBAKO the series, Musashino Animation has gone through unprecedented changes and things are looking bleak for the studio. One day, Aoi Miyamori is offered a role managing a new theatrical animation project. With only a few months left before the deadline, can MusAni complete the project in its current state? It’s up to Aoi to work alongside both familiar faces and new to finish the project in time!
The trailer announcement for SHIROBAKO The Movie will be held during the Anime NYC Virtual Convention on Friday, November 20th at 5:00 PM PST!
