Knuckles, the highly anticipated upcoming television series produced by Paramount+ and starring Idris Elba, has completed the casting of its formidable leading cast just as production on the project has begun in London, England.
Elba is slated to reprise his part from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the program, which was announced in February of last year. He will be joined by Adam Pally (Happy Endings), who will reprise his role as the Wade Whipple character from the Sonic the Hedgehog flicks. It has been revealed in a longline that we will be following Knuckles after he "agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior." He will play an important role in this series.
The events of the series take place in the time period between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the planned third installment of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise (which is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 20, 2024).
Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Scott Mescudi (Don't Look Up), and Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) have all been cast in recurring roles for Knuckles. Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as Maddie, while Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann will also appear in the episode as a guest star. At a later time, there will likely be an announcement on the casting of further actors.
John Whittington, who worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is also the Head Writer and Executive Producer for this series. He is also responsible for writing the Knuckles pilot. The show is also written by Brian Schacter and James Madejski, who are also members of the writing team.
Jeff Fowler, who directed both of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, will be in charge of directing the pilot episode of the series as well as executive producing it. Knuckles has a number of talented directors at the helm of its episodes, including Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker. Elba is also one of the show's producers.
Since Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel have earned more than $405 million at box offices around the world, the fact that the Sonic the Hedgehog property will be expanding into television does not come as much of a surprise to us. Although there has been no announcement regarding the debut date, we definitely anticipate it coming out before the third movie the following Christmas.
