More than twenty years ago Pokémon fans were playing the original Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64. Finally, after two decades, people who enjoyed the title can continue their adventures with a new game and a new region.
New Pokémon Snap is set to release on Nintendo Switch this month, and it looks to be an entirely different game than the first. With seven other generations added to the Pokédex, shinies, and much more having joined the fray since 1999, that's to be expected.
Director Haruki Suzaki recently chatted with The Washington Post to share what fans could expect from the upcoming title, and touched on a few of the things that will be different, and how things were adapted for the Switch as a platform.
“The world in which wild Pokémon live is rendered to the best of the Nintendo Switch’s hardware capabilities, and the aim of the game is to investigate that world. Once you’ve taken a photo, you can edit and share it online with people around the world.
We took that concept [of photographing Pokémon in their natural surroundings] and adapted it to the Nintendo Switch’s hardware in a way that fits today’s photo culture. The result is a simple game of taking pictures in a world where Pokémon are alive and well in nature, but at the same time there is a variety of contemporary ways to play with photography.”
