Before the Power Rangers flipped and morphed into the public eye in the west, Super Sentai was all the rage in Japan. Beginning way back in the mid-70s, the franchise is best known for ushering in the Tokusatsu genre and, along with Kamen Rider and Ultraman, making it the huge blockbuster it is today.
But with all humble beginnings, none of it would have been possible without the very first team. Himitsu Sentai Gorenger has some of the most outlandish suits of any team, but in their defense, they were still ironing out what did and didn't work on screen, and they also established the long-lasting five-person team to start.
What many don't know is that aside from the series, there was also a manga series that released and was created by Shotaro Ishinomori. Now, Seven Seas Entertainment plans to bring that manga to the public eye again with a hardcover release in the west titled SUPER SENTAI: Himitsu Sentai Gorenger – The Classic Manga Collection!
This collection will chronicle the heroes' journey on paper and is sure to open the eyes of many Power Rangers fans who had never heard of Super Sentai. We would love to hear your thoughts on the new series in the comments below!
An evil secret society called the Black Cross Army threatens world peace, and only an elite task force known as the Earth Guard League (EAGLE) can stop them. After the Black Cross Army destroys EAGLE’s headquarters across Japan, only five young recruits survive. Hiding in a secret underground base, they are given enhanced battlesuits that empower them with superhuman abilities, transforming the youths into an unstoppable squad to combat evil.
SUPER SENTAI: Himitsu Sentai Gorenger – The Classic Manga Collection will release in digital and hardcover on April 2021 for $24.99 USA / $31.99 CAN!
