Will Rinko Kikuchi's Mako Mori find another Drift compatible Jaeger pilot in the Pacific Rim sequel? At this past SDCC, Charlie Hunnam was in attendance to promote Guy Ritchie’s
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, the
Sons of Anarchy actor revealed that he won't be returning for the follow up. Given his absence, should we assume that Mako and the Gypsy Danger won't be appearing as well? If Kikuchi is appearing, how will the sequel avoid retreading previously covered material in Mako's search to find a partner to pilot her giant mecha?
In order to meet its February 23, 2018 release date,it's likely that the film will need to begin filming before the end of 2016 or in very-early 2017. As such, expect more casting decisions to be made and announced, which will shed new light on the "rebootquel." Though Guillermo del Toro is not returning to helm the sequel (he's being replaced by Steven DeKnight), he remains an executive producer and disclosed earlier this week that the film will be set in a post Kaiju War society. In that same report, he also indicated that a
large portion of the cast would be returning for the sequel but it looks as if production won't be counting Hunam among thier number.
John Boyega will play the lead in the film and
Scott Eastwood is reportedly in deep contract talks to join him.
