Kabaddi is a physically demanding sport that originated some 4,000 years ago. The sport is described as one man running to the opposing team's half of the court and tagging as many out as they can without being tackled, in a single breath.
The intense sport spawned a manga series by Hajime Musashino titled Burning Kabaddi. Debuting in the pages of Shogakukan's Manga ONE app and Ura Sunday site in 2015, the series has been a huge hit for fans of sports manga. A new anime has also been greenlit and should be coming later this year!
There has only been a teaser for the anime released so far, but it appears that casting announcements are making the rounds as a new voice has just been confirmed for the series. Voice actor Gen Sato will be playing the then yet immensely strong Sōma Azemachi!
While there is still a lot to learn of the series, the steady flow of news is sure to excite fans of the manga. We would love to hear your thoughts on the show or casting in the comments below!
The manga's story centers on first-year high school student Tatsuya Yoigoshi, a former ace soccer player who dislikes sports. He gets invited to join a team for the contact sport kabaddi. He scoffs at the idea at first but becomes interested after watching a kabaddi practice.
Burning Kabaddi is coming in April of next year!
