Here's a new look at Elizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa, courtesy of the official Power Ranger movie's Instagram account. The caption reads, "
After eons locked away… I’m FREE! I have plans for your pitiful planet. Stay tuned." That sound's eerily similar to the original Power Rangers opening theme song monologue from original Rita Repulsa actress Machiko Soga (voiced by Barbara Goodson) which goes, "
After 10,000 years, I'm free. It's time to conquer Earth." This is likely a good indication that the movie isn't straying too far away from the source material.
Although, many fans have glimpsed what appears to be the Green Ranger power coin in her staff. With rumors that Rita and Zordon (Bryan Cranston) were once Power Rangers long ago, perhaps director Dean Israelite is putting his own spin on the show's old-school lore.
Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
